After Abandoning Players, LA Rams Make Stern Minicamp Decision

The Los Angeles Rams had practices on Monday and Tuesday as part of their offseason plan. However, in a sudden change of plans, the Rams will be wrapping up their offseason program earlier than expected. This news comes after the LA Rams decided to back the California Bill.

The Rams head coach, Sean McVay, informed about this while speaking to multiple reporters on Thursday that the mandatory minicamp scheduled for the week has been cancelled.

Recently, the Rams have made headlines with their backing of the Senate Bill 795, which has received mixed reactions from the NFL and the fans, accusing them of limiting the professional athletes’ rights.

SB 795 is a proposal to amend Section 3600.5 of the Labor Code relating to workers’ or pro-athletes’ compensation. This bill restricts access to the California workers’ compensation system for trauma and injuries suffered on the field.

The NFL disapproved of this bill that targets players from filing trauma and occupational health issues claims. The LA Rams ' support of this bill is seen as a way of “abandoning players” with little or no connection to California.

Now, with the mandatory minicamp cancelled, questions were raised on the reasoning behind this. Per Cameron Dasilva of the Rams Wire, coach McVay made this decision as he felt the roster had enough practice during the OTAs and the two days of the minicamp.

On Wednesday, the Arizona Cardinals canceled the final practice of minicamp and only held one on-field practice. But with the minicamp cancelled, does McVay have the lay of the land for his roster?

Coach McVay Gives Insight on the New Additions to the Rams

With the mandatory minicamp now canceled, coach McVay gave his take on the performance of the new additions to his team.

“Up to this point, I feel really good about the NFL guys, whether it’s through free agency or trades that we’ve added,” said McVay to reporters.

Per Sam Garcia of the LA Sports Report, McVay heaped praise on the rookies, like quarterback Ty Simpson, who have been getting familiar, although a lot is being sent their way in a short period of time.

Gary Davenport of the Bleacher Report ranked the LA Rams defense as the second-best defense after Myles Garrett joined in. He called the defensive unit “one of the most intimidating” units in the league.

Angelo Guinhawa of the Gridiron concluded by saying that the Rams could soon reach the top of the defensive units across the league and be capable of winning another championship.
